The run is in the second week of lock down and we are only able to take virtual run results.  It is worth reflecting on how we were back to this time 5-years ago in 2016.  This event number 463 and there were 63 starters.  It must have been good conditions as there were 10 personal best times.  First home in the 2 Kilometres was Klaye Van Weerdenburg with his best time of 6.29.  In the 3.5 was Foxx McGeachey in a personal best time of 15.49 and in the 5 Kilometres was Daniel Beby in a time of 17.40.  Daniel was closely followed home by Dan Lloyd-Jones with his PB time of 17.59.  All except Klaye have gone on to improve on these times.

The weather over the last few days has been terrible with rain and gale force winds and those who recorded a time would have earned every kilometre of their selected distance.

Tonight, the Broulee Runners are back in lock down.  We have been fortunate since 14 October 2020 to be able to run together as a group in the 5 kilometres.  That dark period lasted 30 weeks.  Then on 21 April this year we were able to have runners compete over all three distances.  It is hoped that this current lock down will not last long.

We wish to encourage Broulee Runners to continue to run or walk over one of the three distances during lock down and send in your time.  It doesn’t matter where or when.  If you are not a card-carrying Broulee Runner, you can obtain a ‘virtual membership card’ by submitting a result.  It is important to continue to exercise and even measure your performance.

The best example of this is from Simon Wall “I am in quarantine so 54 laps around the back yard, up the side of the house, cross the front lawn and back through the garage.”

All records of individual performances are maintained, and should you need to check on PBs, number of runs or when you had you first run send a message.

It is worth noting that a few runners are approaching significant events in their history at the run.  The first is Zoe Whymark with 28 runs is close to her Broulee runner’s shirt.  Simon Wall has passed this mark many months ago and has not been with us in person to accept his shirt.  Janelle Morgan 97 runs and Lisa Robbins 98 runs are looking forward to the significant 100 run mark to join the 42 other legends to achieve this status.  All Broulee runners can bend a knee to the Herculean performance of David Connaughton with over 550 runs.

The warm weather attracted families to this evening’s event and helped produce 8 personal best times.  Nicole Minifie and her daughters Keira and Mia all had personal best times in the 2 kilometres.  Not to be outdone the Mackay boys Benji, Marcus and Neil also registered PBs in the 2 kilometres.  Julie Amphlett improved her time in the 3.5 kilometres as did Victoria Schuh in the 5 kilometres.

We welcomed Georgia Smyth to her first run with the group.  We failed to mention John Sutton’s first run in last week’s report, so he came back this week decided to move up to the 3.5 kilometres.  There is a suggestion that he may go even higher to the 5 kilometres next week.

Tonight, being a few days after the horse’s birthday it was appropriate that we had a couple of stallions performing this evening.  Leading the gallop was Daniel on the 18-minute mark and Dave Bain, Scott Carver and Matt Lambert coming down the straight behind him.

We welcomed Nick Corby, Victoria Schuh to their first start with the group.  We neglected to mention Julie Amphlett and Margaret Artuso as new competitors in the report for last week.  Julie, Margaret, and Victoria are regulars at the Batemans Bay Parkrun.

Personal best times were recorded by Lilly McIntosh, in the 2 kilometres, Maddy Seidel in the 3.5 kilometres and Jenny Taylor in the 5 kilometres.
