18 April 2018

It was school holiday time for the Broulee runner and walkers and there were 89 starters.  We welcomed to their first run with the group the McDermott family consisting of Connor, Victoria, Bailey and Julia, the Sleeman family of Eli, Jane, Anthony and Kai and the Brown family of Amber and Will.  Also, there for their first run were Daniel Greenway, Maia Ford, Michelle Marsden, Jenny Halkin, Sandro Lopresti, Karen McLean.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Louis and Olivia Hayward, Tino, Rocco and Laura Lopresti, Zahlia Kelly, Nathan Costin, Bruce Allison.  In the 3.5 kilometres Sunni West was impressive and in the 5 kilometres the Gilligan family of Brock, Harrison and Vaughn all improved.

The star performance of the evening was from Harrison Gilligan, who recorded a time under 20 minutes in the 5 kilometres.  This performance places him in a select group of only 20 runners, who have achieved at this level in the 11 years history of the event.

We congratulated 5 starters tonight, who participated in the Canberra Running festival last Sunday.  The Marathon runners were Nev Madden, Anthony Miles and Morgan Pettit.  Our half marathon representatives were Lauren Evans and Alan Andrews.  All competed with distinction in incredibly tough conditions.  Those Broulee runners not available tonight were half marathon runners Josh Connaughton and Geoff Hawke.

The event will still be held on ANZAC Day Wednesday 25 April at 4.30pm see you all then.

11 April 2018

Excellent weather conditions attracted 84 starters to this evening’s Broulee run/walk.  We welcomed Tino and Laura Lopresti and also Elise Butler to their first run with the group.  Damien Lyons, a visitor on holidays from Melbourne ran strongly in the 5 kilometres and enjoyed the occasion and promise to return and promote the event.  It was a special occasion for two recent mothers in Michelle Mitchell carrying baby Lucinda and Regina Knobel carrying baby Lotte.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Vaughn Gilligan, Mitchell Beby, Poppy Melgaard, Poppy Mitchell, Kelly McPartland, Rocco Lopresti, Julien Dunn, Betty Jeffery, Charley Proksch, Helen Okey, Jye Barbara, Carol Marsden, Peter Johnsen and Lucinda Mitchell.  In the 3.5 kilometres the improvers were Dylan Holmes, Leora Kelly and Isabella Lopresti.  In the 5 kilometres the achievers were Scott Melgaard, Alan Andrews, Jared Searson, Angie Gannon and Selby Johnston.

The star of the night was Christian Proksch, who was awarded his 30-run shirt.  Christian is the fourth member of his family to achieve this reward.  This is a reflection of the attraction of the event in that parents and their young children can participate and have fun. Christian is pictured with wis family Jo, Charley and Leo.

Best wishes to our marathon runners Nev Madden, Anthony Miles and Morgan Pettit, who will be running next Sunday in the Canberra Running festival.  Also, we have Lauren Evans, Alan Andrews, Josh Connaughton and Gary Ashton running in the half marathon.

See you all next week at 4.30pm.

4 April 2018

The first night with the 4.30 pm start after the end of day light saving attracted 63 starters to this evening’s Broulee run/walk.

Excellent conditions allowed 11 people to achieve personal best times.  In the 2 kilometres the McPartland family of Rosie, Deakin and Darren achieved as did Beau Melgaard, and Jill Bennett.  In the 3.5 kilometres Jessica Flood, Angie Gannon, Dylan Holmes, Emily Dickinson and Pamela Gannon improved.  In the 5 kilometres Lisa Robbins bettered her time, which is a good sign for her half marathon in 10 days’ time.

We welcomed Logan Cross, Betty Jeffery, Poppy and Scott Melgaard to their first run with the group.

Many of our runners are competing in the Capital Coast Triathlon this coming weekend and in the Canberra Running Festival the following weekend.  All have been training very hard and are expected to perform with distinction.
