27 December 2017

The warm summer weather attracted lots of visitors to this evening’s run.  Some make it a yearly event to participate.  77 starters completed the 3 distances.  In the 2 kilometres Louis and Olivia Hayward together with Niamh Scahill recorded personal best times.  In the 3.5 kilometres, it was a family affair with Gabriel and Mark Kennedy improving with Justine Beaumont completing the family trifecta of PBs.  Rob Ryan once again improved in the 5 kilometres.  Heath McLachlan, a visitor from Geelong, was also impressive in improving his time over this distance.

It was a big occasion for a number of Broulee runners this evening for the last event of 2017.  30-run shirt was awarded to Ruby Connor.  Makayla Wade and Daniel Beby (pictured) recorded their 100th run.  Makayla, whose first run was on 4 November 2015, joins her brother Patrick on this mark.  It is a special attraction of the event that the very young like Makayla can enjoy the event and achieve.  Also, elite athletes like Daniel can enjoy the event with his wife and three children.  Daniel, who joined the group on 17 June 2015, is the local record holder in the 5-kilometres with a time of 16.47.  The only athlete in front of him is Matt Johnsen, who has represented Australia in an International Cross event in America.

The achievers for the year 2017 are Greg Flood with the most number of runs, the most improved female athlete is Julianne Domeny and the most improved male is Morgan Pettit.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy New year.

The Broulee runners & walkers celebrated Christmas at the run this evening. With the rain stopping there was a near record field of 76 people finished the event.

We welcomed Grace Johnson and Jacqueline Oberg to their first run. It was a great evening for the Kennedys in the 2 kilometres with Mollie, Katie, Samson and Emma recording personal best times.  Others to improve were James Dickinson, Ruby Connor, Anna Hosking, Poppy Mitchell, Audrey Knobel and Anthony Knobel. In the 3.5 kilometres Nina McLachlan and Erin Domeny improved.  In the 5 kilometres Andrew Oberg and Rob Ryan improved.  Rob has recorded PBs in his last three runs at this distance. Emily Dickinson and Anna Hosking (pictured) were awarded their 30 shirts at this evening’s run.

Wishing everyone a happy Christmas, see you all next week at 5pm.

13 December 2017

The summer conditions were ideal for this evening’s run.  With the end of the school year some of the younger runners had other things on their mind.  Nevertheless, we had 45 starters and welcomed Pam and Angie Gannon and Tess Ellwood to their first run.

We shared the head land with the Pizza Van, which is applied named Cut & run.  So, to avoid the traffic we had to cut the run short to avoid using the road leading to the Headland.  There were lots of excellent times without any personal best times because of the reduced distances.

Erin Domeny (pictured) was awarded her 30-run shirt and shared the occasion with her mother Julianne and sister Amber.

Broulee runners to perform well on the big stage are Jayla Hancock Cameron and Dan Lloyd-Jones.  Jayla set an Australian record in the 16-year girls 800 metres at a recent Athletic Carnival in Sydney and Dan won the sprint triathlon at Callala by 2 minutes.

Our Christmas run will be next week so bring a plate along and we will socialise after the run is complete. See you all next week at 5pm.

6 December 2017

The course was wet and the rain returned to keep the 52 starters cool in the Wednesday evening Broulee run walk.  Mud, water holes and slippery descent did not deter the 4, who managed to record personal best times.

Ruby Connor and Tiffany Johnston improved in the 2 kilometres. Selby Johnston made a family double by improving his time in the 3.5 kilometres.  Rob Ryan improved in the 5 kilometres for the second time in two weeks.

We welcomed the Mackay family of Marcus, Benji, Eva and Neil to their first outing with the group.

Daisy West (pictured with some of the other young runners) was awarded her 30-run shirt this evening.  She joins her mother Cathy and brother Sunni in achieving this milestone.  Her father David has to run 4 more times to complete the full set for the West family.
