This evening there were 29 starters in overcast humid conditions.  The weather must have been conducive to good running as there were 9 personal best times recorded.  In the 2-kilometres PBs were recorded by Lewis Gunn, Hugo Ireson, Lily Williams, and Erin Patrick.  In the 3-kilometres the improvers were Chloe Tangney and David West.  In the 4-kilometres the improvers were David Connaughton, Jackie Snowball and Brad Turner.

In the next two Weeks we are to reach significant milestones.  On the 8 March we will celebrate our 800thrun and our 16th birthday.  We are presently at our third starting point.  Initially the start was down at the boat ramp besides the toilet block.  We then moved to the Mossy Point lookout (Anchor) and we are currently at Candlagan Creek.  We have had as few as 4 starters and as many as 120 starters.  David Connaughton is the main man with 649 runs under his belt.  He started a year after the commencement with his first run on 22 February 2008.  Deb is only 149 runs behind him, and youth is on her side, so look out Dave!

A very warm Summer afternoon greeted our runners this afternoon. Any spectators could be forgiven for thinking that they were watching a triathlon as a vast majority of our runners went straight from finishing their run directly to Candlagan Creek for a swim.

Some great results coming across the line, a particular standout was the close finish between David Fleming, Stephen Seidel and Dave Connaughton all coming across within seconds of each other.

A big thank you to Jason, Amber Domeny and David McCann for helping out for this weeks run it is the amazing volunteers that put up their hand to help out that makes this group such a pleasure to be a part of.

Perfect running conditions greeted the 35 starters in this evening’s run.  We welcomed Madison Jackson to her first run with the group.  She is one of the list of Medical Doctors training in the Eurobodalla, who competed with the Runners.  She was recommended by Emily Tugwell, who completed 30 runs before returning to Canberra.  We also had Dean Jackson return to the fold.  Dean had his last run-on 4 October 2017.  Dean along with his father Peter was one of the originals having started back in 2007.

Personal best times in the 2-kilometres were recorded by Lewis Gunn, Ben Rosenbaum and Max Gunn.  In the 3-kilometres Bernie Lambert recorded a PB.  In the 4-kilometres, after a great tussle with Andrew McPherson, Stephen Seidel was a nose in front, and recorded his personal best time.

Richard Fisher is not able to be with us for a while having broken a bone in his leg.  Richard first joined the Broulee Runners on 14 September 2011.  He has 349 runs to his credit having competed over each of the distances on the old and the new course.  He has been an incredible stalwart of the event having handed place numbers since the early days.  He also did clearing work on the old course after storms threw hazards on the track.   He can only look down on the start and finish from his deck.  All Broulee runners look forward to his return to his post.

53 competitors fronted the starter Deb Connaughton in this evening’s run.  The conditions were very tough with hot humid conditions and the water of Candlagan Creek was very welcome to the younger athletes.

In the 2-kilometres personal best times were recorded by Audrey and Anthony Knobel and the ever-improving Benji Mackay.  In the 4-kilometres Michael Lambert improved his time as did Mark Nolan

Congratulation to Keira Atkin who performed outstandingly in the NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships held at Forster.  She come 4th in the 2-kilometre beach run on soft sand.  She was up against some of the best athletes in the state.

The new course is very friendly to mothers and fathers with prams wanting to exercise. As a result, we have very young people commencing their athletic career at the Broulee Runners Wednesday event.  Tonight, we can nominate the youngest to participate is 3 week old Mia Riley.  It is never too young to start an athletic career.
