There were forty starters in tonight’s Broulee run.  We welcomed Chloe Fisher, a visitor from Ballina and Rob Kellett, a Broulee resident to their first run with the group.  Tonight, was the last of the Day Light saving start time and next week we will revert back to 4-30 PM start.

We were fortunate to have some of the athletes, who competed in various events last weekend.  In the Triathlon Steve Phipps was 2nd in his age group and Jenny Taylor was 6th in her age group.  In the Half Marathon Matt Lambert was 9th overall and Mike Lambert was 3rd in his age group.  In the 10 kilometres Bernie Lambert was 1st in her age group.  We congratulate all our Broulee runners who participated in the various events.

Personal best times in the 2-kilometers tonight were recorded by Harper Bourke (by 34 seconds), Violet Turner (by 20 seconds), Annie Johnsen (by 33 seconds), and Jennifer Tangney (47 seconds).  In the 4 kilometres PBs were recorded by Stephen Seidel (by 22 seconds), and Brad Turner (by 14 seconds) and Andrew Greenway (by 6 seconds).

Very warm humid conditions made it tough for the 34 competitors.  Nevertheless, there were 8 personal best times recorded.  In the 2-kilometres Sunni West came in first across the line with an excellent PB of 8.24, which is an improvement by 50 seconds.  Other strong improvers were Audrey and Violet Turner and Annie Johnsen and her daughter Grace Lamond.  In the 4-kilomrtres David West showed that he is no slouch by recording a personal best time of 16.03.  Brad Turner rounded the trifecta for the family by doing a PB in the 4-kilometre.  Steve Phipps, a local top triathlete showed good form for the weekends event by cruising through the 4 kilometres with a PB.

It was fitting that Annie Johnsen ran a PB as we celebrated her 200th run. She was a member of the originals having commenced doing the 5 Kilometres on 14 March 2007 with a time of 34.50.  A year later she improved on this time by 7 minutes.

Also making his 30th run is Benji Mackay.  He did his first run in the original 2 kilometres on 6 December 2017.  It is great that Benji and Annie go to the same school, she the Teacher and he the student.at St Peter’s Broulee.

A very warm afternoon greeted our runners this week. We welcomed Vince Millar to his first run with the group. It was great to have Lauren Evans back joining the group for her first run on the 4km course.

A special mention must go to Richard Fisher who is still in his moon boot and managed to get a Personal Best time (in a moon boot) on his walk today, hopefully he will be back in his runners next week.

With Mike and Robyn taking a well deserved break, we thank Richard and David for helping out with the time keeping. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers who are always ready to help out.

This evening we celebrated the 16th year of the running of the Broulee Running event.  It was decided to combine this occasion with the 800th run.  It all started on 7th February 2007.  Liza Martini had the contacts and Mike Kennedy had the experience of the organisation of similar events from his running in Canberra.  The first event had eight starters over 5 kilometres.  We were obviously going to be a success as Liza talked a visiting priest, John Woods, to come along.

We attempted to run it as a handicap event with the slower runners starting first and the greyhounds later.  This became too complicated and we reverted to a mass start.  Originally we started at the toilet block at the Mossy boat ramp and turned around before the Broulee shops as the footpath was still being completed.

Women have played a significant role in the success of the event.  These being Liza Martini, Robyn Kennedy, and Deb Connaughton.  Mike Kennedy works behind the scene and tries to look important at the event,

A strong field of 45 contested the birthday run and the occasion helped 13 runners do personal best times.

In the 2-kilometres Audrey, Lotte, and Regina improved as did Declan and Andrew McPherson and Michelle and Mitchell Beby.  James Gunn and Lily Williams also joined the 2 Ks personal best times.  In the 3-kilometres Andrew Greenway and Bernie Lambert improved as did Michael Lambert in the 4 Kilometres.  Brad Turner clipped 36 seconds from his personal best 4 Kilometre time.

As well as the birthday celebrations we were pleased to award Lotte Knobel her 30-run shirt.  Also, Michelle Baby recorded her 100th run, her first run was back on 29 July 2015. Well done, Michelle!

The first run of Autumn attracted 34 starters.  Before the start we congratulated Lotte Knobel on reaching 5 years today and to demonstrate that she was one year older she ran a personal best time in the 2-kilometres.  Not to be out done, her mother Regina also ran a PB.

In the 3-kilometres Julianne Domeny improved her time and in the 4-kilometres Brendan Gorzalka ran an excellent time of 14.52 to improve his time over this distance by 2minutes 53 seconds.  Others to improve in the 4 Kilometres were Oliver Duncan, Mike Whiteman and Jackie Snowball, equalled her best time.

We are looking forward to next week when we celebrate our 16th Birthday and 800th run.  We ask that those who have a 30 run shirt to wear it to mark the occasion.
