The winds of winter came a few days early for this evening’s Broulee Run.  Although, this impacted greatly on the numbers, the quality of the 39 starters was evidenced by 11 runners achieving personal best times.

In the 2 kilometres Sadie and Aaron Dunn bettered their previous times.  In the 3.5 kilometres personal best times were logged by Stephanie and Cameron Lunn, Isabella Lopresti, Regina Knobel, Vicki Whitter and Julie De Ernsted.  In the 5 kilometres the improvers were Owen Gordon and Anna Gooch-Andrew.

It was a special evening for the Domeny family as Julianne recorded her 100th run and husband Jason received his 30-run shirt.  This was celebrated with daughters Amber and Erin running well in the 2 kilometres.  The Domeny family have notched up 298 runs, this includes 14 runs by Jason’s mum Robyn.

Another family had cause for celebration with Tino Lopresti recording his 30-run.  He is the 3rd member of the family to achieve his shirt.  His brother Rocco has only 4 more runs to join the 30-run club.  As by way of family pride his sister Isabella reduced her 3.5-kilometre time by 50 seconds.

There were perfect conditions for this evening’s Broulee run/walk.  Keely Boon and Finn Holmes were new members of the 52 starters, who were sent on their way by starter David McCann.  The event is a great family affair and it was pleasing to see RobynDomeny participating, she is the mother and grandmother of 4 other members of her clan.  Robyn only recently recovered from a serious illness, which required hospitalisation in Canberra, and now she is back pounding the pavement.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Aaron, Freya and Sadie Dunn as well as Mitchell Beby.  In the 3.5 kilometres Mary Anderson and Isabella Lopresti improved.

In the 5 kilometres the improvers were Matty Woods and Jason Domeny.  Both were impressive in a strong field of athletes contesting this distance.

Peter Jackson, who helped start the event 12 years ago, would have been proud to see two of his grandsons Dylan and Finn Holmes racing one another over the 3.5 kilometres.

Perfect autumn weather attracted 52 starters to this evening’s Broulee run/walk.  We welcomed Meg Ryan from Canberra.  She will be working with the Heart Foundation in Moruya tomorrow and what better way to show an example of the benefit of exercise than to go for a run.  We also welcomed Freya and Sadie Dunn and Keely Boon to their first run with the group.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Angus and Justin Murphy, Tino Lopresti, Alba Van Der Meulen and Mirra Boon.

In the 3.5 kilometres Peter Johnsen recorded a personal best.  Peter has come to exercise later in life and he has turned his life around losing lots of weight and started walking.  He is now a regular at both the Broulee Run and the Batemans Bay Park run.  His improvement is inspirational.

8 May 2019

Wednesday 8 May was a great night for running and celebrating the success of a number of people.  There were 53 starters and we welcomed Matty Woods and his family Mirra and Teeka Boon to their first run with the group.

In the 2 kilometres Peter Johnsen did a personal best.  In the 3.5 kilometres Vicki Whitter and Makayla Wade improved.  In the 5 kilometres it was a great night for the Hadley family with Paris and Matt recording personal best times

David McCann recorded his 200th run this evening.  David had his first run back on 31 August 2011.  He is a regular having competed in all three events and is regularly helps out as a starter.  Peter Johnsen completed his 30th run.  He is head of the family of 5, who have participated in the event over a long period of time.  Laura Lopresti completed her 30thrun and she is the inspiration for 5 other members of her family.

We were fortunate to have Daniel Beby and Julie De Ernsted join us this evening.  Daniel competed in the Port Macquarie Ironman and again qualified to race the Hawaii Ironman in October.  This event is regarded as the World Championship of long-distance Triathlon.  Julie completed her first half Ironman at the same event and her performance was outstanding.

Even though school is back and the Cross-Country races are on during the day we were still able to attract 54 starters to this evening’s Broulee Run/Walk.  All the visitors have gone home and it is the regulars that come to test their fitness.  There is always great rivalry in families and none more so than in the Connaughton family and Deb was able to beat Dave for the first time over the distance of 5 kilometres.  Dave will long remember his 451st run.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Laura Lopresti, Jade and Ebony Berry.  In the 3.5 kilometres Erin Drewsen, Jason Domeny, Andrew Greenway, and Makayla Wade improved.

Julie De Ernsted and Andrew Phipps ran this evening as a hit out before their Half Ironman race next Sunday at Port Macquarie.  They will be joined by Adrian Connor in the Half and Daniel Beby and Gerard Van Weerdenburg in the full Ironman race.  Between the five Triathletes they have recorded a total of 478 Broulee runs.  Therefore, their performance will be closely watched by all the Broulee Running family.
