BROULEE RUNNERS RESULTS
WEDNESDAY 29 JANUARY 2020

Warm and humid conditions greeted the Broulee runners this week. We welcomed Phil Timms, Chris Prow, Bethany, Stephen and Caitlyn Siedel and Eva Barker. All distances were presented with an unscheduled obstacle course with a fallen banksia at the top of the track that had been cordoned off, so personal bests were very hard to come by as all participants had to run around to get back on to the course.

This week we acknowledge the Domeny family. We congratulate Robyn Domeny on completing her 30th run/walk. Robyn began by coming along to support her son Jason and family Julianne, Erin and Amber and decided she may as well start to participate, since she was already there. Jason is steadily improving his time since he started and is often finishing towards the front of the pack. Erin is very close to achieving her 100th run, if Amber is participating she is helping handing out the cards to the finishers and we wish Julianne a big happy birthday today. The Domeny’s are regular and valued participants to our group and it is always great to see them on the starting line.

With Mike and Robyn away for a few weeks a big thank you goes out to Dave, Jill and Richard, who helped to time and record our participants, making this week run smoothly.

Very strong winds and hot temperature did not stop 68 people from testing themselves over the 3 distances on offer this evening.  Most were hunched over driving into the wind on the finishing straight.  It was great to see a number of Canberra people, who visit each Christmas holiday period, in particular we welcomed the 5 members of the Cecere family.  Andrew and Jacqueline Oberg from Goulburn always enjoy coming to the event.  Jonathon Feneley, from Sydney, takes the opportunity to run with his friend Andrea Cantle on his regular visits.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Cameron Hewitson, Archie Gilligan and Zara Hungerford.  In the 3.5 kilometres Angie Gannon ran an excellent time to record a PB.

Justin Murphy celebrated his 12th birthday by coming second in the 2 kilometres and relegating his father Angus to 4th position.

69 starters braved the strong winds in tonight’s run.  All enjoyed the way out.  However, they had to pay the price on the way back and only the strong were able to improve their times.  The Canberra connection in Sarah, Harry and Greg Leach were welcome starters.  Harry tested himself over the 5 kilometres and for one so young he did an excellent time of 28.40.

We welcomed Caroline Booth to her first run and also Archie, the youngest of the Gilligan boys, to his first run.  This makes four of the men folk of the Gilligan family, who have run this event.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Jules McCarthy, Alexis and Scott Carver, Harrison Gilligan and Ashlee Beby.  The only other PB was recorded by Max Hadley in the 5 kilometres.

Although, there were no 30-run shirts tonight, we have Tess Klower, Anthony Smith and Michelle Connor waiting in the wings for the award and this is expected in the next few weeks.

From the ashes emerged the valiant district runners, who want to handle the stress of the disaster by participating in this evening Broulee run.  It gave people an opportunity to socialise and talk about normal activities.

We welcomed two new members of the Seidel family in Bethany and Emilia.  This means the running Seidels have a total of 4 Broulee runners in the family.

Although, personal best times were not on peoples’ minds this evening.  Rosie and Kelly McPartland put the ash and smoke behind them and recorded excellent PBs in the 2 kilometres.

The star of the night was Yma, who recorded her 30thrun and was awarded her shirt.  She was very excited and now joins her husband Garren, who has 35 runs to his credit.
