26 June 2019

The shortest day for the year has just gone and 40 starters in this evening’s run cannot wait for the days to get warmer and longer.  We welcomed Darren Drewsen and Jordan Hatcher to their first run with the group.  The Drewsen family filled the first three places in the 2 kilometres and I suspect the father Darren may have been closer to his children if not for a slip on the knotty path!

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Erin Drewsen, Liliana Murphy, Regina Knobel, Max Richards, Evelyn Johnston and Andrea Scroope.

In the 5 kilometres the star was Qwen Gordon with 87 seconds personal best time.  He credited this improvement to his new racing shoes!

19 June 2019

51 starters participated in Wednesday’s Broulee Run/walk, which was the best field since the cold weather arrived in May.  It was pleasing to see the family groups back and particularly the Mitchell clan.  We welcomed Elizabeth Gyar to her first outing with the group.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Poppy and Hugo Mitchell.  In the 3.5 kilometres the improver was Peter Johnsen.  Peter must be the favourite for the Broulee runner having the greatest number of personal best performances over the 3 distances for 2019.

In the 5 kilometres the improvers were Owen Gordon and Jason Domeny.  Jason has shown remarkable improvement in his performances since starting with the group in October 2018.

It was pleasing to honour the performances of Stephanie Lunn, Tino Lopresti and Riley Beby, who performed with distinction in representing their schools at the regionals.  Stephanie will now go on the state cross country championships.

12 June 2019

The expected rain held off and 43 starters performed in warm conditions.  We welcomed Kirsty Dunn, Evelyn Johnston and Andrea Scroope to their first run with the group.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Freya and Sadie Dunn, Audrey Knobel, Jesse Jenkins, and Peter Johnsen.  The stand out over this distance was Mitchell Beby, who recorded his third personal best time in succession.  It could be he is following in his famous fathers’ footsteps, who to tackle the Kona Hawaiian Ironman in October.

In the 3.5 kilometres Vicki Whitter recorded her fourth consecutive personal best.  She is improving rapidly under the coaching of Gary Ashton, who encourages her by running with her each Wednesday.

Lauren Evans ran tonight fresh from a second placing in a half-marathon in Canberra last Monday.

5 June 2019

As the winter wind and cold starts to bite many regulars considered sitting in front of a warm fire more attractive than braving the conditions at this evening’s Broulee Run/walk.

31 people of all ages and abilities tested themselves over the three distances.  In the 2 kilometres the front runners Tino Lopresti and Mitchell Beby showed their class in recording personal best times and putting a 3 minutes gap over the 3rd place runner.

In the 3.5 kilometres Regina Knobel and Vicki Whitter recorded personal best times.  This is Vicki 3rd personal best time in a row.

The star of the night was Andrew McPherson, who recorded his 200th run.  Andrew started at a modest level recording a time of 27.20 in his first 5 kilometres on 26 February 2014.  Since then he has recorded times of 7.03 in the 2 kilometres, 13.35 in the 3.5 and 20.03 in the 5 kilometres.  He has competed in numerous other longer distance endurance events with distinction.  His wife Michelle and children Declan and Nina are regular starters and they have a combined total of 194 starts between them.
