This was our last event under daylight saving time and next week we will be starting at 4.30.  So, if you come at 5pm you will need to run fast to catch up.

This evening there were 35 results recorded with a mixture of virtual and actual runners.  We welcomed Georgia Finlay and Carla Berry to their first run with the Group.  Carla has moved from Yorkshire in the North of England and now lives in Batehaven.  Georgia has a local connection and comes from Canberra.

Personal best times were recorded by Harper Lasscock, Clare Knight, and Eve Popelier-Knight.

It is very unusual for the Run to be cancelled.  However, because of the enormous rainfall over an extended period, it was decided in the interests of safety of our participants to take this action.  The treacherous knotty path and long grass and tree roots were hazards too difficult in such wet conditions.

It is great to see that runners have responded with commitment to keep fit and choose a safe course to complete a virtual run over one of the distances.

The results of these committed athletes are as follows:

2 Kilometres

Roz Hayward 19.55

Victoria Fleming 1956

Wet conditions brought out the real runners this evening with 15 to front the starter and 11 virtual runners were able to select better conditions during the day.  Daisy and Sunni West recorded excellent personal best times.  Sunni’s time in the wet muddy conditions saw him improve by 4 minutes and 28 seconds in the 5-kilometres.

Broulee Runners showed their class in feature events last Sunday.  Matt Lambert took on the might of Canberra distance runners in the Western Creek Half Marathon (21 kilometres) and finished in a time of 95.32 and placed 47th in a field of 156 runners.  Tori Henig showed her toughness by tackling the Six Foot Track mountain run.

The Six Foot Track is a 45 kilometres trail stretching across the Blue Mountains near Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves.  The course varies from rocky and sandy track over big hills and deep rivers.  She admits this was a true test of mind and body and is not certain if she could repeat the challenge again.

Perfect running conditions welcomed the 27 actual and 13 virtual starters in this week’s event.  We welcomed back the Ireson and Gilligan family.  Once again young Tino Lopresti impressed with a 20 second personal best time and he finished 4th in the 5-kilometres behind quality senior runners.  Greg Castle also impressed as he equalled his personal best time in the 5-kilometres, which he established last week.

This evening we celebrated Richard Fisher’s 300 appearance with the group.  Richard first came onto the scene on 14 September 2011.  Since that time, he has regularly helped with the event.  He controls the places getters at the finish and helps with the marking of the course, he has removed debris and even mowed the track.   He is an asset and great bloke.  Well done Richard.

Perfect Autumn conditions allowed the 18 actual runners to record strong runs.  There were also 10 virtual runners, who also produced good times.  Personal best time were recorded by Sunni West, Crystal Aitken, Greg Castle and Norm Lenehan.

The star of the evening is eleven-year-old Tino Lopresti.  Tino had plaster removed from a broken arm on Monday and managed to come second in the 5-kilometres with a time of 23.03.  This excellent time is only 7 seconds away from his personal best.  Even with his arm in plaster he continued to perform with distinction and was able to manage an average time of 23.48 for the 5 kilometres.
