Perfect conditions for the last run of Spring saw 42 actual runners contest the three distances.  Given the conditions there were excellent times with 11 personal best runs.  All the class was in the 2-kilometres with the Gunn family holding centre stage.  James, Lewis, and Max improved their times. Another to improve was Laura Lopresti (two weeks in a row); others to impress were Benji Mackay, Julie Amphlett, Aaron Atteridge, Richard Fisher, Daniel Greenway, and Andrew Greenway.

We celebrated with the presentation of the 30-run shirt to John Lightfoot, and to show his class he ran a personal best time to mark the occasion.  This milestone was a long time coming as his first run was 13 years ago.

We welcomed Shelby and Oliver Duncan to their first outing with the group.  We welcomed back Steve Wynn, who ran an impressive time of 15.50 for the 4 kilometres.  Several years ago, his only other run was on the old 5-kilometre course in a time of 22.14

The field of runners may have been small however it was all quality as there were 8 personal best times achieved.  In the 2-Kilometres the achievers were Laura Lopresti, Mel Miller, Alyssa Birks, Emily Bredin, Maggie Bredin and Chris Van Der Senden.  In the 3-Kilometres Chloe Tangney improved as did John Hicks in the 4-Kilometres.

Tonight, there was a notice with all the names of record holder both male and female over the 3 distances.  These will be closely watched as runners will be keen to collect one of these records.  It is worth mentioning Lilly McIntosh, who holds both the women’s 2- and 3-kilometre records.  Lilly now has her sights set on the 4-kilometre record.

We are looking forward to some outstanding achievements in the next few weeks.  John Lightfoot needs one more run for 30-run shirt; Michelle Baby only one more run for a big 100; and Adrian Connor needs two more runs for a bigger 200 runs and Andrew McPherson needs two more runs for an even bigger 300 runs.

On a day of all weathers we were very fortunate to have the sun shining as we started this evenings run. It was lovely to see the Lambert family out in force with Ben and his children George, Frankie and Alby joining Michael, Bernie and Matt for a family run. A special mention goes to George on his fantastic somersault over the finish line it was very theatrical and it was decided he takes after his Grandfather Michael.

We congratulate Emily Tugwell on receiving her 30th Broulee runners shirt. Emily joined the group on the 2 February 2022 after moving to the area. Besides her consistent participation it has been great to see her improvement with her times.

An excellent field of 39 starters competed in tonight’s run.  There were 5 personal best times.  In the 2-kilometres Rocco Lopresti and Carissa and Janelle Morgan improved.  In the 4-kilometres Bernie Lambert and John Hicks improved their previous time.  We welcomed Mel Miller and Stewart Needham as well as the Bredin family of Everly, Maggie and Katia Bredin to their first run with the group.

Tonight, was a special night for Andrew Greenway, who celebrated his 100th run with the group.  Andrew started on April 2018, and he has been a consistent performer since that time.  He was joined tonight by his two sons Daniel and James.  Running is a family affair for the Greenway family counting Mother Natalie’s runs they have 172 runs between them.

Some of our travelling runners were present tonight.  Tori Hennig and Gill Stapleton were part of a team with Ren Lefevre and Mirella Granata who competed with distinction in the Bondi to Manly Ultra 80-kilometre run.  The Lambert family of Bernie and Michael ran the Canberra 10-kilometre fun run and Matt did a personal best time in the half marathon at Huskisson.  Gab Smith was outstanding in her first half marathon at Huskisson.

Perfect conditions for running of the Broulee stakes over 2, 3 & 4 kilometres.  The event is extremely popular on the running calendar and attracted a strong field of participants.  The handicapper was tough on those running with dogs and prams.  Nevertheless, the outstanding competitor was Katharina Birks pushing a pram with twins Tommy and Theo on board to record a personal best time.  Others to impress the judges with PBs were Andrew Greenway, Bernie Lambert, and John Lightfoot in the 3 kilometres.  Over the longer course of 4 kilometres the stewards were considering a drug test on the improved form of Ken Hogg and John Hicks.we congratulate Caitlin Seidel on receiving her 30 run shirt.

Some of the Broulee Runners will be taking on events in Canberra, Sydney, and Huskisson next weekend.  These events cover distances from 10, 21 and 50 kilometres.  We look forward to hearing of the results of these athletes and we are confident they will do the Eurobodalla district proud.
