26 December 2018

The Boxing Day event for the Broulee Runners/Walkers attracted 95 Starters and amongst them were 15 visitors from as far away as Darwin.  We welcomed back to Broulee Liza Martini, who now lives in Townsville.  She is one of the originals and helped start the event back in 2007.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Joe Whitear, Mitchell Beby, Liliana and Angus Murphy, together with Aislinn Scahill.  In the 3.5 kilometres the Kennedy boys Samson and Mark Kennedy improved their times.  In the 5 kilometres the stand outs were Jason Stegbauer, Nathan Urban, Gavin Grant, Jason Domeny, Ciara Scahill and Justine Beaumont.

Special mention must be made about Jason Domeny, who has been transformed from a spectator watching his girls run to running machine.  He continues to improve and records personal best times each time he starts.  He is an inspiration to anyone thinking about taking up running as a sport.

Thanks to the hardworking women Jill Brown, Deb Connaughton and Robyn Kennedy, who record the times of all 95 runners.

Just a reminder that we are running over the holiday period and starting at 5pm every Wednesday.

19 December 2018

The weather was kind for the Christmas celebrations of the Broulee Run/Walk.  Among the 66 starters, we welcomed Mackenzie and Darren Roylett from Adelaide, Andrew Foster from Canberra, Robyn Edenborough from Sydney and Meredith Peck from Broulee.

In the 2 kilometres Riley Beby ran an excellent personal best time.  In the 5 Kilometres personal best times were recorded by Mathew Edenborough, Gabriel Kennedy, Deb McCartney, Jason Domeny and Lisa Robbins.

Bede Webster, the bare foot runner, was awarded his 30-run shirt this evening.  He started back in 2011 and because of work commitments in Canberra, it has taken him until now to reach this mile stone.

Award was given to Julianne Domeny for the most number of runs for the year.  The most improved in the 2 kilometres was awarded to Regina Knobel.  In the 3.5 kilometres the most improved is Hayden Loutit, who was only seconds in front of his brother Keiran in this category.  In the 5 kilometres the most improved is Julie De Ernsted.

The year was a huge success thanks to the many people who volunteered to support the event.  We will continue to hold the run all through the holiday period and into the New year.

12 December 2018

Strong North Eastly winds helped the 58 starters in this evening’s Broulee Run/Walk.  However, on the way back they had to struggle to move forward.  Never the less there were 8 personal best times recorded.  In the 2 kilometres Tino Lopresti, Sean Costin and Liliana Murphy improved.  In the 3.5 kilometres the stand out performances were by Bridget Lunn, Angus Murphy, Damien Kennedy and Yma Carnall.  In the 5 kilometres Jason Domeny improved his time.  Jason only started with the group on 17 October and since that time has improved on his time in each of the 3 distances he has completed.

We welcomed Kaylee Denys and Deb McCartney to their first run with the group.  Andrew Oberg and his daughter Jacqueline from Goulburn made a welcome appearance.  We were also pleased to welcome Damien and Judy Kennedy back from Indonesia after two years away from the run.  They sponsor the 30-run shirts.

5 December 2018

Excellent running conditions attracted 49 starters to Wednesday’s Broulee Run/walk.  We were pleased to welcome Kevin Cadiou and Bep Fouchet, who are visitors from France and friends of Helen Okey.  Liliana Murphy had her first run and she makes up the third member of the running Murphy’s.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Annie and Jackson Carrol and also Hallie Wignell.  In the 3.5 kilometres new best times were recorded by Justin Murphy, Nev Madden and David West.  In the 5 kilometres the honours were shared by Garran and Yma Carnall, who both improved on their previous times.

Roz Hayward (pictured with husband Ross) celebrated her 100th run this evening.  She is an inspiration to her family with at least 15 members of family having participated in the event.  Roz’s first run was on 24 June 2015.  She was encouraged to participate by husband Ross, who started back in 2007 and has completed 243 runs.

We will have our Christmas party on the 19 December after the run.  Bring along a plate to share and your preferred beverage and we will gather on the headland for a small presentation and a social catchup. Everyone is welcome.

See you all next week at 5pm.
