The August winds finally arrive at the Mossy Point Headland to freeze the 48 starters in Wednesdays Broulee run.  The star of the night was Rocco Lopresti, who received his 30-run shirt.  To celebrate he did a personal best time in the 2 kilometres.  His brother also ran an excellent time to finish second in the 2 kilometres and record a personal best time of 7.42.

Other families to impress was mother Kelly McPartland doing a PB in the 2 kilometres and daughter Rosie doing a 69 seconds PB in the 3.5 kilometres.  Travis Dummett and Andrew Greenway followed their PBs of last week with another this evening.

It is worth noting that Mike Kennedy was able to present Lorraine Jackson with a copy of the starters sheet of the first Broulee Run held on 7 February 2007.  Her late husband Peter and daughter Sharee helped start the event with 6 other runners and it has grown steadily since that time.  It has now become part of the local community family scene in the district.

Wednesday’s Broulee runners saw 52 starters in ideal conditions despite the weather forecast predicting gale force winds.  The star of the night was Andrew Greenway, who completed his 30^th run and received his shirt to celebrate the occasion.  He has shown good form in the 2 and 3.5 kilometres and tonight he tackled the 5 kilometres for the first time and cracked the 30-minute barrier, which is an excellent achievement.

We welcomed Imogen Seidel to her first run with the group.  She joins Stephen, Caitlin and Maddy to complete the quadruple of talented family.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Travis Dummett, Marcus Richards, Billie Booker and Willow Cole.  In the 3.5 kilometres the improver was Tiffany Johnston.

We welcomed back Lisa Robbins, who produced a copy of the Cape York News with a picture of her competing in the Weipa parkrun proudly wearing her Broulee runner’s shirt.  In typical country hospitality she and husband Gary were warmly welcomed by that community.

We had perfect conditions for this evening’s 615 event in the history of the Broulee Runners and walkers.  We welcomed Charlotte and Hollie Hatcher, Andrea Cantle, Johnathan Feneley and Taylor Traecey.  

Nine-year-old Taylor is a sensation running the 5 kilometres in 23.27 placing her in 5^th spot over this distance this evening.  She is being coached by Matt Johnsen and was only going to run the 2 kilometres. However, this being her first run with the group and being unfamiliar with the course, she decided to follow the faster runners and ended up doing the 5 kilometres course.  She could follow in the footsteps of Jayla Hancock-Cameron and Shayne Hargreaves, previous Broulee Runners, who compete on the national scene.

This evening Broulee Runners welcomed special guests from Canada, the Barida family.  Chris, Michael, Caitlin and Daniel all ran the 5 kilometres.  They have been learning to surf and enjoyed learning this new skill as there is no surf where they live.  Garran Carnall was congratulated for recording and receiving his 30-run shirt.

Other new people doing their first run with the group were Maddy and Stephen Seidel, Darryl Brierley and Wendy Donohue.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Leo and Marcus Richards.  In the 5 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Will Rosner and Bede Webster and Chris Garcia equalled his best time of 20.37.
