The weather was not kind for the Christmas run. The wind and rain did not spoil the enthusiasm of the 34 starters in the event. We welcomed Stef Cirillo to his first run with the group. We also welcomed back the Lunn family after an absence of two years.

There were excellent Person Best times this evening. Paige Connaughton reduced her time in the 5-kilometres by 93 seconds.  Incidentally, this betters Dave’s (her father) time by 11 seconds. Incidentally, Dave set this time on 16 May 2012, so he had a lot more practice than Paige.

Others to achieve excellence were Stephanie Lunn, who clipped 22 seconds off her best and Eli Sleeman was outstanding with a reduction of 141 second in the 5-kilometres.

We were all set to celebrate Christmas; however, the weather was not kind to us so we will give it another go next week.

Tonight, we had 26 starters in cloudy and overcast conditions.  It was a course for mud runners.  Some handled the conditions very well.  Others like David McCann, who did his virtual run earlier came to grief down the rough hilly path.  However, like a true runner, he managed to ignore the pain and continue running.

We were fortunate to have 4 young men on a surfing holiday, who noticed the activity around the starting line and decided to join in.  They were on a holiday from Newcastle after finishing their final year of university.  Their names are Tyler Hobson, James Campbell, Zac Morgan and Nathaniel Elginn.  They each ran the 5 kilometres and Tyler pushed Daniel Beby all the way to the finish.

Tori Hennig came along proudly wearing her medal for winning her age group in the 30-kilometre Coastal Classic last weekend.  She was joined in the event by three Broulee runners Gillian Stapleton and Ren Lefevre.  Gill managed 4th place in her group.

We welcomed Rachel Cootes to her first run with the group.

The results are as follows:

The beginning of summer brought with it hot humid conditions for this evening run. Twenty-four people faced the starter and there were two excellent personal best times in the 3.5 kilometres. Nancy Costin improved by 141 seconds and Daniel Greenway knocked 26 seconds from his best time and finished well in front of his father Andrew.

Four of the Broulee Runners are contesting the 30-kilometre Coastal Classic this Saturday. The course is along the expansive coastal fringe of the Royal National Park south of Sydney. The adventurous four are Tori, Gill, Mirella, and Ren. They have been training hard for the event and we wish them well. They are part of Tori’s Hennig’s regular Sunday training group. Another weekend training group’s contact is Andrew McPherson. Therefore, there is plenty to offer in the district for keen runners.
