As the weather improves, we can attract more families to the run.  We were pleased to honour Emerson Carver, who celebrated her 30th run with the group.  The Carver’s are great supporters of the event with Mum Taryn, Dad Scott and sisters of Emerson, Alexis and Sophia, the family have notched up 360 runs between them.

Fresh from her holiday on Magnetic Island, where she did plenty of walking, Julianne Domeny was able to improve her 2-kilometre time by 50 seconds.  Julie Amphlett continues her steady improvement with yet another PB in the 3-kilometres by 20 seconds.

We can look forward to the actual appearance of Karen Harding-Smith and Dave Connaughton, who are on track to achieve significant milestones with the event.

Tonight, the numbers were down because of the very chilly wind.  Participants could have been mistaken for thinking that the wind was coming off snow on Broulee Island.  It was all about quality rather than quantity.  Personal Best times were recorded by David McCann and Julie Amphlett in the 3 kilometres.  Impressive performances in the high winds.

Special mention must go to Jaylah Hancock-Cameron, a Broulee Runner, who won gold representing Australia and Broulee by taking out the Gold in a 1500 metres race in London.  Jaylah holds all the records for the 2, 3.5 and 5 kilometres on the original course.  She is the shining star among our champion athletes to achieve at international level.  Other Broulee Runners to achieve greatness are Daniel Beby, in the Hawaiian Ironmen, and Matt Johnsen in an American Cross Championship.

We welcomed David Pitt from Canberra who ran his first run with the group.

The cold winds of winter greeted the 21 actual starters in this evening’s run.  We were able to welcome Thomas and Zara Menzies-Stegbauer to their first run on the new course.  Thomas ran neck and neck with Daniel Beby and Zara put in an excellent time.

Personal best times were recorded by Julianne and Erin Domeny in the 2-kilometres.  Also, Richard Fisher recorded his best time over this distance.  In the 3-kilometres Janelle Morgan, Bernie Lambert and Paul Searson improved their previous best time.  We welcomed Rhett Guthrie to his first run with the group.

It was a special occasion for Mike Atkin and Scott Melgaard, who both recorded their 30th run with the group.

It is great that we are receiving virtual run results for near and far.  This helps keep the Broulee Runners in the minds of those not able to turn up on the night because of holidays, work, and sickness.  These times are treasured by the Broulee running family.

This evening the weather was kind, and we avoided the rain.  We had a few slight mishaps.  Someone decided that the 3-kilometer marker need to be moved.  Also, the turn into Heath Street was not clear in the gloom as some of the newer runners turned early.  These problems will be sorted out by clearer marking.  In future runners will be told to look at the marks on the footpath as well as the ‘Witches Hats.”  The path marking takes precedence.

We welcomed Fiona Fraser, Melissa Burney, Paddy and Bonnie O’Leary, Rush Burney, and Georgina Inwood.  It was great to see Maureen and Paul Searson make a welcome return to the run.

Stephen Seidel knew the way and recorded a Person Best time in the 4 Kilometres by 12 seconds.

Samson Kennedy, who was given a course inspection of the 3-kilometer course on Tuesday, was able to turn at the mark on the footpath rather than take the longer course to the illegally moved ‘Witches Hat’.  Having set himself for a maximum effort and he ran a new record time of 13.09 for this distance.
