Wet weather and cold wind reduced the number of recorded times.  However. we can report on the achievements of 18 runners and walkers.  Remember, if we can come out to play, we will be in daylight saving time and we will start at 5PM.

A celebration we missed while the Connaughton’s were stuck in Queensland and it was compounded by the problems of Lockdown, was Deb’s 400th run.  Deb started with the runners on 27 February 2008 with the encouragement on her daughter Paige.  With the departure of Liza Martini to the deep north, who incidentally was one of the founders of the event, Deb took over the marketing on the Blog (Liza’s creation) and set up the Facebook page.  She is also the face of the event as starter and official timer.  Every week people can see Deb’s report and the many photos she has in her library.  With a bit of luck, we can celebrate this event at our Christmas party!!!

A face from the past is James Mitchell, who did his first and only run with the group on 3rd of January 2018.  We can look forward to more runs!

Today we celebrate the 30-run of Gill Stapleton, her first run with the group was on 14 October 2020.  She came to this part of the world with the encouragement of her running pal Helen Carmody.  She very much enjoys the friendship with the running community in the local district.

Gill and Helen ran marathons together overseas including London, Paris, USA as well as in Australia.  The most traumatic of these was in the Boston Marathon in April 2013 when two bombs were exploded near the finish line killing 3 people and injuring 280 others.  Gill and Helen were only a short distance from the finish line when the explosions occurred.  Obviously, they were unable to finish.  However, they were invited back the following year, she relates that this was a very moving, emotional, and special experience.

Another special young lady is Alexis Carver, who was able to receive her 30-run shirt.  She is a talented athlete having represented her school in cross country running and performed with distinction in her school athletic carnival.  This is remarkable as she only recently recovered from a broken leg in skateboard accident.  Her family are great supporters of the Broulee Runners having a total of 348 runs between the 5 members.

Personal best times were recorded by Mike Atkin in the 2 Kilometres.  Mollie Kennedy did a PB in the 3.5 kilometres and Georgia Finlay improved in 5 kilometres.

This week we have 31 results recorded and three Personal Best Times.  In the 2 kilometres Alba Ven Der Meulen improved as did Georgia Finlay and Jenny Taylor in the 5 kilometres.

The Runners are still in lockdown, and we have a hard core of strong supporters, who have recorded a run each week since our last group run on 11 August 2021.  It is most impressive and inspirational when a new person joins us and consistently records a run each week.  Julie Amphlett has recorded 8 consecutive runs since commencing on 28 July 2021, with four of them during lockdown.  Well, done Julie!

Alexis Carver recorded her 30th run today and earned her 30th-run shirt, which will be home delivered in the next few days.

The star of this week’s event is Zoe Whymark, who recorded her 30th run with the group.  Zoe’s first run was on 4th of November 2020.  At that time, we were coming out of restrictions and able to have both actual and virtual runners.  Now of course we are only able to have virtual runners!  Her best time in the 5-kilometres is 23.48, which she achieved on 27 January this year.  She is an accomplished athlete having a history of strong performances in marathons and long course triathlon events.

Spring came to Broulee yet having been locked down everyone had to knuckle down and do their run in their own time.  We are fortunate to have strong support and people wanting to get out and exercise.

Special mention goes to Samson Kennedy, who recorded his 30th run today.  He is locked down in Canberra and will get his shirt when we are allowed out.

Another highlight is the 100th run of Lisa Robbins.  She burst on the running scene in November 2012 and has been a consistent performer in fun runs, half Marathons, and the Batemans Bay Parkrun.  She is always very willing to help in local events.

We welcomed Karen Harding to her first run with the group and she recorded an excellent time in the 3.5 Kilometres.
