Tidbinbilla - ACT Mt Running Championships

Congratulations to Dave on his fabulous run on the weekend. We are missing you on the Wednesday runs!

Here is a race report from race organiser John Harding:

OSMOND WINS ACT MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP

Eight-time Australian mountain running representative David Osmond added to his long list of previous wins in the ACT Mountain Running Championship when he ran an excellent tactical race to take out today’s Championship on the Camelback Trail in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Osmond trailed David Hosking by 11 seconds on the first of the three 4 km loops but picked up his pace by 31 seconds on the second lap to surge to a strong lead which he maintained to the finish in 55.22.

Hosking finished second in 57.06 for the 12 kms and James Stewart was third in 1.02.35.

There was a major upset in the women’s 8 km Championship when Elizabeth Humphries showed brilliant downhill speed to win in 40.27, with reigning Australian champion Vanessa Haverd, a renowned uphill and long distance runner, second in 42.33. Humphries stamped herself as a strong contender for medal honours in the Australian Championships in Brisbane on 29 May. Samantha Rampant was third in 59.25.

Australia’s top junior male orienteer Lachlan Dow of Bushflyers Orienteers took out the 8 km Junior Men’s Championship with a strong 39.13. The open men’s 8 kms was won by John Kennedy in 46.46 from George Mason in 47.37.
