Tonight, was the first test of the New Course at peak time with lots of visitors and sunny weather.  Parking was the major problem and negotiating the traffic of people on the bridge over the Candlagan Creek.  The event went off very successfully with outstanding numbers and results.

There were lots of old faces, who previously contested the old course.  They welcomed not having to run up and down the treacherous knotty path.

 

Samson Kennedy added the 2-kilometres record to his 3-kilometres record.  He joins Lily McIntosh as the joint holders of the male and female records for the 2-& 3-kilometres records.  Outstanding young athlete Thomas Menzies Stegbauer knocked 40 seconds from the record he set for the 4-kilometres last week.

 

In the 2-kilometres personal best time were recorded by Emma Holland and Emma Kennedy.

 

We acknowledged the magnificent achievement of Andrew McPherson who ran his 300^th run this evening.  Andrew and his family have been great supporters of the event and his wife Michelle and son Declan, and daughter Nina add another 234 runs to the family total.

 

Congratulations also went to Emma Kennedy having achieved her 30^th run with the group.  Father Anthony, son Samson and daughter Mollie add another 132 runs to her total.

Tonight, was a record number of starters over the new course with 74 finishers.  As is fitting with 74 starters it was appropriate that records had to fall.  This happened over the 2, 3 and 4-kilometres courses.  James Gunn broke Mike Atkins record in the 2-kilometres.  Samson Kennedy bettered his own record in the 3-Kilometres.  Thomas Menzies-Stegbauer broke Daniel Beby record in the 4-kilometres and Audrey Ward broke Paige Connaughton’s record in the 4-kilomrtres.

 

Poppy Mitchell, Violet Kerr, Roxy Kerr, and Emma Kennedy did personal best times in the 2-kilometres.  In the 4-kilometres Paige Connaughton, Thurein Halpin and Mary Ann Kulh improved their previous best time.

Wind, rain, and sunshine greeted the 34 actual starters in this evening’s run.  We were delighted to see the 5 members of the Kerr family return to the run to contest the new course.  

 

It was the Bredin family up against the Birks family.  Katia Bredin pushed a pram with Maggie on board and Everly the support person against Katarina Birks pushing Tommy and Theo with Alyssa assisting.  The competition helped both families all record personal best times.

 

Personal best times were recorded by Benji and Neil Mackay in the 2 kilometres. In the 3-Kilometres Bernie Lambert showed her continued improvement by recording a personal best time.  In the 4-Kilometres Gill Stapleton consistent training helped her improve her time

 

We welcomed Layla Riley supported by her grandmother Claudine Bradley to their first run with the group.  Layla promises to be a star of the future.

A very warm Summer afternoon greeted our runners this evening. We welcomed the Duncan family and it was wonderful to see the Mitchell family make a return and join us. The highlight of the evening must go to Jamie Edwards and Mia Atkin who had a very tough tussle to the finish line and left nothing in the tank to cross the line within a second of each other.

A big thank you to David McCann and Richard Fisher for all their ongoing help in keeping the event running smoothly.

We will be having our Christmas party after the run on Wednesday 21 December. If you are free and would like to join us we will kick off the afternoon with the run and then gather afterwards for a catchup. Bring a picnic rug or chair and something to eat and drink. Everyone is welcome.
