A great turnout for our last run of winter. We had a bigger starting line this week with the conclusion of the soccer competition for the younger runners, 30 actual runners and 7 virtual runners participated. We had PB’s from William and Karen Harding Smith, who are both going from strength to strength with their running. We welcomed Friederike Pender to her first Broulee Run and congratulate Jenny Taylor who earned a Broulee Runners Shirt for her 30th run.

A Broulee Runners team comprising of Lauren Evans, Scott Melgaard and Matt Johnsen contested the Capital to Coast run over 100 kilometres held over 8 stages last weekend. The event started in Kowen Forest through Braidwood then from Monga National Park to Mills beach on the South Coast. These champions ran under the name of Clyde Cartel and were first in their category of 12 groups and were 62 minutes in front of the 2nd place runners.

Perfect conditions confronted the 17 actual runners this evening.  We were also fortunate to have 6 virtual runners submit times.

 

The actual runners enjoyed the perfect conditions and as a result there were five personal best times.  In the 2-kilometres Nina and Andrew improved and in the 3-kilometres Andrew Greenway, Paul Searson and Janelle Morgan improved.  Among the virtual runners Emily Tugwell improved her 2-kilometre time by 55 seconds.

 

Special thanks go to Jason Domeny, who was the timekeeper this evening.  He is now skilled in all aspects of the run as he has been the recorder on another occasion.  It was a fortunate that we were able to get his help before he returns to full health and gets back to running.

Two days on from the horses’ birthday and the day after the Moruya Races, it is appropriate that all the athletes young and old could join in the fun and test themselves over the Broulee Runners racecourse.  

 

Out of field of 19 actual starters the first to greet the judges was Will Smith, who was keen to show his mother Karen a clean pair of heels.  There were very impressive PBs by Carissa and Janelle Morgan in the 2-kilometres and Julianne Domeny again improved her time over this distance.  Darren Drewsen recorded a personal best in the 4 kilometres.  He showed courage to push through the pain barrier with an injured knee.

 

The star of the night was Karen Harding- Smith who notched up her 30^th run.  Karen commenced on 1 September 2021.  She has embraced distance running and has competed over longer distances.
