The August winds came early to Broulee this eveningand 30 runners came to test themselves.  The warmer weather helped with performances and as a result there were 6 personal best times.

 

In the 2 kilometres PBs were recorded by Lilly McIntosh and Ashlee Baby.  In the 5 kilometres Lulu Henley, Richard Scholes, Eliza Milenkovic and Daniel Greenway improved.

 

The outstanding Carver family are great supporters of event having completed 339 runs between the 5 members.  Sophia and Alexis performed with distinction at the Saint Peter’s Athletic carnival last Thursday.  Alexis had podium finishers in three events and 4^th in an another and was the 2^nd age champion.  Sophia competed in 8 events and was first in shotput and was first in the high jump and set a new school record.

Cold southerly winds made the 22 actual starters bend their backs to fight the wind.  This did not stop Nicole Minifie from clipping one second from her personal best time.

 

Matt Lambert and Andrew McPherson were able to record their fastest time for the 2021 season this evening.  Others looking to achieve excellence are David Connaughton, who will clock up 550 runs with his next event and Lisa Robbins needs only 2 more runs to join the list of those with 100 runs.

We were back together with masks before and after the run and social distancing.  12 runners and one dog contested the 3 distances.  We welcomed two new members of the Atkin family with dad Mike joining daughter Mia.  His other daughter, Keira has had 4 previous runs and was only 1 second over her impressive personal beat time of 8.11 for the 2 kilometres.

 

David McCann celebrated his 300^th run this evening on Bastille Day.  However, we were unable to organise the parade, fireworks, and fly past.  This achievement is especially pleasing for the runners as David regularly helps with the timing and recording of the event.  His first run was on 31 August 2011.  During this time, he has contested all three distances.  He has joined a select group of 7 others to pass 300 runs.  He mentioned that he will retire when he reaches 1000 runs.  This will take a minimum of 14 years.  Good luck David!
