30 December 2020

This is the last week of an interesting year for the Broulee Runners.  Despite the Fires, Flood and Pandemic we were able to continue with 31 virtual events and 21 actual events.  Currently we are only racing over the 5 kilometres to avoid over-crowding.  This is important during this holiday period when larger numbers make it difficult to maintain social distancing.

This evening we had 82 starters with 66 actual runners in the 5 kilometres and the rest virtual runners.  We welcomed James, Evan, and Caroline Minto to their first run with the group.  Also, Ashley and Simon Clarke, Kate Crisp, Jessica Kennedy and Dom Rix made their first appearance.

There we plenty of personal beat times and these were Mollie Kennedy, Anna Johnson, Myles and Rowan Grant, Gabriel Kennedy, Joe and Jo Whithear, Emma Burgess, Robyn Smith, and Niamh and Aislinn Scahill.

The star of the night was Rosie McPartland who recorded her 30th run and received her commemorative shirt.

Wishing everyone a happy new year.

Today’s event attracted 11 runners to face the starter in atrocious conditions and 10 others did their ran in similar conditions closer to home.  More than 100 millimetres of rain across the coast did not stop the Broulee Runners.

We welcomed Zara Stegbauer and Bec Pearce to their first run with the group.  It was also pleasing to see Jason Stegbauer and Alan Andrews back after a long absence.

Bernie Lambert once again improved and 11-year-old Tino Lopresti once again showed his class with a performance just outside his personal best in such wet slippery conditions.

9 December 2020

This evening we had 33 results presented and there were 3 personal best times. Tino Lopresti once again impressed with an excellent time in the 3.5 kilometres with an improvement of 10 seconds. Max Hadley and Bernie Lambert both improved by 11 seconds in the 5 kilometres.  Victor Violante, in his first run with the group in the 5 kilometres recorded an outstanding time of 19.35.  His family consisting of Alex, Charlotte and Sebastian submitted times in 2 kilometres.

The stars of the night were Nev Madden and Morgan Pettit.  Nev has recorded 200 runs and Morgan 100 runs.  Both carrying injuries managed the 2 kilometres distance.  The stewards granted this special dispensation because of their long service.

Nev first run was on 10 September 2008 and he was a major contributor in keeping the run going when numbers were extremely low, and it looked like petering out.  He has been instrumental in fostering distance running in the district by organising a Sunday running group.  He has also assisted in parkrun and in little athletes.  He is well respected in the running scene both in Canberra and in the coast.

Morgan had his first run in February 2017 and since that time he has competed in marathons and ultra-mountain distance events.

2 December 2020

The cooler weather was much better for the 23 actual runners this evening.  The 9 virtual runners had the luxury of picking the best conditions for their run.

Personal best times were recorded by Tom Hofsteede and Richard Scholes.

There were some outstanding achievements by Broulee Runners in trail running.  Lauren (pictured) was the first female in the Rocky trails Run at Mogo on 22 November.  Matt Lambert and Anthony Miles tackled the Summit Shoalhaven on 28 November in close to 40-degree heat.  Matt ran the 23 kilometres and competed the hilly course in the time of 2 hours and 21 minutes.  Anthony ran the 40-kilometres course to finish second in his age group in a time of 5 hours and 9 seconds.
