Broulee runners were back in action tonight with 23 actual runners and 25 virtual runners.  We were finally able to present Angie Gannon with her 30-run shirt after 35 runs.  The annual bonus to the records person is under examination and is seriously in doubt.

Personal best times were recorded by Hugh Wignell, Iona Kelly, Rosie McPartland, Max Hadley, Eliza Milenkovic, Bernie Lambert.  Tino Lopresti did again with another personal best time of 23.28.  This was an improvement of 16 seconds and placed him 4th in a strong field of 30 runners in the 5-kilometres.  He always has a powerful sprint for the last 50 metres.  Yet this week his power finish started at the 100-metre mark to leave Andrew McPherson in his dust.

Tonight, is week two of being back together and there were 22 actual runners over the 5-kilometre distance and 16 virtual runners giving times for all distances.  Although, there was a strong wind blowing this evening there were some excellent times achieved.  Most notable was that of Tino Lopresti, who recorded a time of 23.28, which was an improvement of 2 minutes and 6 seconds on his first attempt over this distance last week.  He is a primary school student and would be a standout runner at St Peter’s School.

A special welcome to Loren Chambers, who was making a come back after a stress fracture and Suzanne Harter after an absence of 6 years.

Lock down conditions make people want to extend themselves and this was evident with Janelle Morgan, who has 96 runs over the shorter distances, ran her first 5 kilometres and recorded a creditable time of 33.01

We have been in isolation for more than 30 weeks. Tonight, we come back together to be able to run the 5 kilometres.  We still welcome times from those who cannot join us in person and who run the various distances at their own location.  We all need to keep the dream alive so that soon we will be able to have us all back together.

Today we had 18 ran the course and 17 virtual runners.  As we are back in actual race conditions, we are now able to recognise those that run the course and recorded personal best times.  These are Lauren Evans, Matt Lambert Christian Proksch and David McCann.  We also welcome Ashley Garland, Joelle Karam, Jill Stapleton and Liza Milenkovic to their first run with the group.

The outstanding young athlete of the night was Tino Lopresti, who recorded an excellent time of 25.34 for the 5 kilometres.

Day light saving is with us and we are one week away from getting together as a social distancing group to run a 5-kilometre event from the Mossy Point Anchor.  After more than six months 5pm on 14 October will be significant in the life of the Broulee Runners.  We started back on 7 February 2007 with only a 5-kilometre run with 8 starters and it was not until 10 September 2008 that the 3.5-kilometre event was introduced.  Then on the 29 September 2010 the successful 2-kilometre distance was used.  We all hope that it will not take that long to have us all back together.

People will be able to run or walk the 5-kilometres and there is no time limit if you finish in the light.  You are encouraged to test yourself over this distance.

People can still time a run over any of the 3 distances at a convenient time and location for you and have it recorded.

The champion of the week is Kim Young despite having Chemo and radiotherapy to attack her lymphoma, she is keen to get back on the track again.  Having come to the realisation that her running career is over for the foreseeable future and intends to become a brisk walker.  Kim has been a great exponent and supporter of fitness, having been a triathlete and fitness trainer.  She wants to see people participate by walking or running and not to be embarrassed about holding people up.  Her message is to come and walk the Broulee event and/or the Batemans Bay Park Run when it gets started again.

Here are the results posted this week:
