Very strong southerly winds made it very difficult for the 62 starters this evening.  The highlight was the number of very young pre-school age children, who participated with their parents.  It is delightful the way they sprint the last 50 metres and all know the ropes by collecting their place number and move directly to the recorder.

We lost a long time regular in Louise Cox, who is moving to Sydney and gained a former regular in Victoria Fleming, who returned after a long illness.

We welcomed Alex Dodds from London.  He will be moving to Sydney with another new starter in Katie Richards.  We also welcomed Phil Turner and Jen Newman.  A special welcome to Olga and Vlad Konovalov, who recently moved to Mossy Point and are enthusiastic about participating in the event.

Personal best times were very hard to come by in this evening’s conditions.  Nevertheless, Julien Dunne in the 2 kilometres and Phil Timms in the 3.5 kilometres were the big improvers.

This evening we celebrated 13 years continuous holding this event.  It has become part of the fabric of life around the district and thanks to the support of volunteers and the community we have been able to hold 639 events during this time.  The real pleasure is to see the little children carried by their parents and then run the last few metres to the cheers of the surrounding participants.  Some of these same children have grown and now compete over the longer distance.  An example is Bonnie Lloyd-Jones carried by her mother Lisa in 2013 did the 2 kilometres in 25.09 and now as and 7-year-old Bonnie has done 68 runs and finished the 3.5 kilometres in 20.55, Lisa’s best is 19.19

Others have gone on to run half marathons, marathons and ultra-marathons.  But most of all it is about the individual competing against themselves and enjoying the community spirit.

We welcomed Buster Ware and Lachlan Bain to their first run with the group.  In the 2 kilometres Lucy Bain, Alexis Carver and Jordan Carter did personal best times.

A very hot and humid afternoon greeted our 68 runners this week. We welcomed Alli, Donni and Richard Gonzalez, Clare and Eve Knight, Farley and Pip Shilson, Bronwyn Bryant and Frank Lopez who was visiting the area all the way from Spain. Personal Bests were very hard to come by on such a hot evening but we congratulate Daniel Shilson on improving his time on his second run with the group. Regular Broulee runners Anthony, Julie, Yma and Garran competed last weekend in the Australian Alpine Ascent Ultramarathon the conditions were very difficult with a strong wind and rain hitting the participants for the whole 50 km course but all four made their required distance.

We had 57 starters line up for this weeks run. With the first full week back to school for 2020 we were still well attended with quite a few school students coming along for their weekly run. 

We welcomed Felicity Enriquez who was visiting from the Sydney area with her gorgeous whippet who also went out on the 3.5km course. 

It was great to have Nev, Jill, Richard and Amber help out with the timing and recording again this week while the Kennedy’s are away. Broulee runners is all volunteered based and it is so wonderful to have so many of our participants put their hand up when we are a little short on helpers. It really is what makes Broulee Runners such a special group.
