31 October 2018

The numbers of young runners in tonight Broulee Run/Walk were down because with Halloween they decided that “Trick and Treating” was more fun.  Never the less there were 51 starters participating in ideal conditions.

We welcomed Matt Stevens to his first run with the group.

In the 2 kilometres Personal Best times were recorded by Hallie Wignell, Jo Pirro and Annette McPartland.  In the 3.5 kilometres Tracy Denning and Tania Dorney were the improvers.  In the 5 kilometres Bede Webster was impressive in edging closer to the magic 20-minute mark.

The 5 members of the Domeny family performed very well and in particular, the man of the house, Jason tackled the 3.5 kilometres and managed to better his wife’s best time by 34 seconds.

Anthony Knobel was rewarded with his 30-run shirt.  Anthony normally carries baby Lottie.  However, to mark the occasion he ran his first 5 kilometres event in an impressive time of 23.47.

See you all next week at 5pm.

The rain held off for this evening Broulee Run/Walk and 64 people of all ages completed their chosen distance over this scenic and testing course.

We can claim the event as international because we have had many visitors from overseas participate and this evening was no exception.  Makoto Fujiyasu from Japan ran the 2 kilometres with his friends Helen Okey and Jye Barbara.

Other first times were Adam, Andrew and Jason Kidd, Jules McCarthy, Tania Dorney, Tim Cowley and Jacquellyn and Aiden O’Leary.

In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Rafael Dyason, Sunni West, Max Kidd, Hallie Wignell, Julia McDermott, Amelia Barker and Melanie Atteridge.

In the 3.5 Kilometres the improvers were Hugh Wignell, Vaughn Gilligan and Matthew Edenborough.

Past and present Broulee runners have achieved at the international level with Jayla Cameron-Hancock winning silver at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and Daniel Beby recording an excellent time in the Ironman World Championships held Hawaii last Sunday.

The courageous 33 faced the starter in this evening’s almost blizzard conditions to contest the 572 running of this Broulee event.

There were lots of first timers this evening and we welcomed the Park family consisting of Sean, Mariquita, Laurence and Diana.  There was also Joshua and Marissa Smart, as well as Greg Whipp and Tayla Makarenko.

Personal best times were recorded by Samson Kennedy and Ellie Van Weerdenburg.

It was family night with 5 Van Weerdenburgs, 4 Kennedys, 4 Parks, and 3 Johnstons. There is a saying by some, that the family that runs together keeps warm together.

Don’t forget our new start time is 5pm, see you all next week.

Numbers were down for our last run at the 4.30pm time slot due to a light drizzling rain. We welcomed the McDuff family and Olivia Shannohan, who were all visiting the area on holidays. An amazing eight personal bests were recorded, the stand out was Dan Lloyd Jones who bettered his time by 18 seconds to come in at a very impressive 17.32 for the 5km event.

We wish Dan Beby all the best as he competes in the Ironman World championships in Hawaii on the 14 October, we look forward to hearing how it goes.

With the introduction of Daylight savings this weekend, our start time reverts to our Summer time of 5pm.
