Great weather for running and out of 48 starters there were 7 personal best times.  In the 2-kilometres Violet Turner improved by 18 seconds and Ross Wilson by 25 seconds.  In the 4-kilometres Ryan Bissell improved by 40 seconds, Sam Bissell improved by 1 second, Henry Bissell improved by 3 seconds, Julie Davis improved by 97 seconds and Ali Coles by 36 seconds.

Next week there will be significant achievements by two of our runners.  David McCann will celebrate his 400thrun and Steve Phipps will achieve his 100th run.  David has been a major contributor to the event by regularly recording times.  Steve is a well know triathlete in the local district.  We look forward to a good turn out to congratulate David and Steve.

An excellent turn out for this evening’s run with 50 runners and walkers.  It certainly was a family event.  Leading the charge was mum and the four Gunn boys: Katrina Birks and her three children; the three Richards boys; the three Bissell boys; mum and the two Mackay boys; the two Shannon boys; Scott and Sophie Carver; Stephen and Caitlin Seidel; Jackie and Anthony Snowball and Otis and Elise Remling.

In the 2-kilometres personal best times were recorded by Violet Turner, Reggie Winter, Alyssa and Katrina Birks, Otis and Elise Remling and Julie Amphlett.  In the 3-kilometres Angus Delaney smashed his personal best.  In the 4-kilometres personal best times were recorded by Brad Turner, Henry Bissell, and Kelita Bourke

Ross Wilson made a very welcome come back.  He is one of the originals having had his first run in February 2008.

Excellent running conditions for this evening’s run attracted 48 starters.  It was great to see three of the original Broulee runners in Jill Brown, Nev Madden and Annie Johnsen.  Nev is recovering from a hip operation, and he is determined to get back to full fitness.  Michael Filmer-Smith, whose first run was in 2014, ran tonight.  He currently lives in England and is back in Australia and made a welcome appearance.

There was a lot of class this evening with 9 personal best times.  In the 2-kilometres Sophia Carver backed up her PB of last week to record another by 13 seconds.  Henry Stitt improved by 3 minutes and 39 seconds, Otis Remling by 20 seconds and Buddy Stitt by 2 minutes and 38 seconds.

In the 4-kilometres the improvers were Nuno Goncalves by 27 seconds, Louisa McAsh by 6 seconds, Charlie Jackson by 22 seconds, Henry Bissell by 11 seconds and Meg Edenborough by 7 seconds.

One day after the ‘horses’ birthday we were pleased to have an excellent field of athletes taking to the track for this evening’s races over the three distances.  There was no horse play as 8 runners improved their times, and we welcomed two new starters.

In the 2-kilometres the improvers were Sophia Carver, Violet Turner, Erin Domeny, Robyn Halkett, Oliver Turner, Charlie, and Jala Channon.  In the 4-kilometres Ryan Bissell smashed his previous time to record an excellent PB.

We welcomed Django Dolphin and Lyndall Jackson to their first run with the group.

The new start area has proved a huge success for families with the adjacent water, swings, and hilly slopes.  It will be more attractive with the warmer weather and the water in Candlagan Creek.  The flat course allows the faster runners to push themselves to their limit. Also, it allows those wishing to walk or push a pram to have a safe path to follow.

Tonight, was very special in the history of the Broulee Runners with Deb Connaughton recording her 500thrun.  Deb started on the 27 February 2008 and has been a regular since that time.  She has been the starter and timekeeper for most of the time since her commencement.  This has required her to do her run earlier in the day.  This obviously requires strong self-discipline to be able to push herself without the competition.

She has been singularly responsible for the strong interest in the event by marketing it on Facebook each week.  The presentation has lots of followers and there are always lots of comments.  Even if she is in a remote location or overseas, she still presents the Facebook page.

She always puts in strong performances when the opportunity presents itself.  Her first 5-kilometres in 2008 was 28.10 and she reduced this time to 25.21.  So, it is fitting that tonight in the 4-kilometres and being able to run with the group, she ran a personal best time of 20.20, which is an improvement of 46 seconds.

Out of the 25 results this evening we had 7 personal best times and one equal PB.  In the 2-kilometres the improvers were Aren Shannon, Ashlee Beby, Leo, and Max Richards.  In the 4-kilometres the improvers were Rob Kellett, Brad Turner, Deb Connaughton, and Meg Edenborough equalled her PB of 24.47.

Special thanks to Damien and Judy Kennedy, who have provided the run with more Broulee Runners shirts on their return from Bali today.

This evening we had 32 competitors in the event with 5 personal best times.  In the 2-kilometres Eli Melgaard improved by 34 seconds.  Evelyne Carton ran an excellent time to improve by 2 minutes.  In the 3-kilometres Chloe Tangney improved by 13 seconds and Meg Edenborough improved by 8 seconds.  Bernie Lambert, fresh from her half marathon, improved her 4-kilometres time by 98 seconds.

The highlight of the event was the awarding of the 30-run shirt to Lewis Gunn.  The Gunn boys and mother Sara are an impressive athletic family, who finish well up in their chosen distance at each appearance at the event.

We welcomed Ryan Bissell to his first run with the group.   He is a new resident to the district, and he expects to make more appearances.

Congratulations to three Broulee runners, who performed with distinction at the Gold Coast half-marathon last weekend.  Bernie Lambert ran the event in 1 hour and 59 minutes to come 3rd in her age group.  Michael Lambert was not far behind Bernie in a time of 2 hours and 2 minutes.  Gill Stapleton also ran an excellent time of 2 hours and 9 minutes.
