Excellent conditions attracted 106 starters for this evening’s Broulee run/walk. We welcomed Eli and Narelle Melgaard, Cooper Gerstenberg, Ryley Soelder and Heidi Ward to their first run with the group. Nick and his son Ben hall from the Central Coast were welcome visitors.
Personal best times were recorded in the 2 kilometres by Chris Murray, Laila Pratt, Rachael Wade, Max, Felicity and Leo Richards. Improvers in the 3.5 kilometres were Michelle Mitchell, Dylan Holmes, Susan Smith, Leara Kelly, Steve Phipps, Pamela Gannon and Mia and Cooper Lasscock. In the 5 kilometres Scott Melgaard and Kathryn Jeffery improved their times.
Running this evening were three men who contested the Port Macquarie Ironman last Sunday. Adrian Connor and visitor Nick Hall did their first and were very pleased with their performance. Daniel Beby was a stand out in his race over the challenging course and his excellent placing gave him automatic entry in the Hawaii Ironman to be held later this year. This event is the pinnacle of the Ironman series and triathletes all around the world seek to gain entry by qualification in their regional Ironman event. It is very special to have a local athlete gain entry in this the Olympics of triathlon.
Also running this evening was Steve Phipps, who performed with distinction in the Half Ironman at the same meeting last weekend.
