Wednesday 23 December was the night that the Broulee Runners celebrated Christmas and even Santa Clause made an appearance.  Given that he had run a long way to be with us he was amazingly slim and fit and ran the 5 kilometres in 19.58.

We had a record number of participants with 75 finishing the various distances.  The previous best was 66 back in September.  The excellent conditions allowed for 9 personal best times.

We had visitors from England, New Zealand, Geelong, Melbourne and Canberra.

The competition was particular strong in the 5 kilometres with a record number under 20 minutes.  Daniel Beby was the stand out with a time of 17.02, missing his personal best by 3 seconds.

A highlight of the night was the awarding of the 30 run shirt to Janelle Morgan

. 

Dave Connaughton recorded the most number of runs for the year.  In the most improved categories there was Andrew McPherson in the 5 kilometre, Rhys Flood in the 3.5 kilometre and Carissa Morgan in the 2 kilometre.  The criterion was the improvement in the personal best times since the beginning of the year.

We will be back next Wednesday 30 December so that participants can set a target time for their new year fitness program.

Great conditions for running attracted 38 starters, given the end of the school year today this was an excellent turn out.  There were 5 personal best times and 4 new starters.

We welcomed Alice and Molly James members of the running Hicks family.  Also started was Michael and Lyn O’Mara from Sydney, who are on holidays at Broulee.

Katie McDonald was awarded her 30 run shirt this evening.

Kim Young backed up after her excellent performance in the Triathlon at Callala last weekend.  She was third in her age group in a big step up into a longer race category.

Next Wednesday is our Christmas run and awards night.  Bring a plate along to share and after the run we will begin our Christmas get together.

Broulee runners will continue each Wednesday throughout the festive season, so no excuses come along and have a run, everyone welcome.

This evening we had the welcome southerly change to cool conditions down for the start of the run.  

We had 35 starters, which was a very good turnout given the end of year school functions.  

7 personal best times were recorded.  It is great to see the very young competitors such as Riley Beby (pictured with his family Mitchell, Michelle, Ashley and Dad Daniel and Kyle and Jarrod Young) and Katie McDonald record personal best times in the 2 kilometres.

It was pleasing to see Robert Beardsmore return to the fold after an absence of over 5 years.  The Beardsmore family now live in England and are on holidays in Broulee.  

Before leaving Australia Robert had completed 15 runs with a personal best time in the 5 kilometres of 19 minutes 49 seconds. (Pictured is Robert and family).

The Broulee runners will be held every Wednesday evening straight through the holiday period. So during and after all the holiday festivities come along and throw some excercise into the mix. See you all next Wednesday at 5pm, everyone welcome.

Great weather greeted the 59 starters for the first run of Summer.  The conditions allowed the cream to come to the top as there were 9 personal best times.  

We welcomed Tim Clare to the run for the first time.

There were outstanding times at the top of each event, this was particularly so in the 5 kilometre event.  Daniel Beby is outstanding and Tom Wells is improving with each run and is soon to brake the 19-minute mark.

David McCann recorded his 100^th run this evening.  His first run was over 3.5 kilometres and was on 31 August 2011.

Our Christmas run and awards night will be held on 23 December at the usual time of 5PM. We will go for the run and then have a presentation and party after we finish.

Thirty-degree heat restricted the numbers in this evening’s run.  Never the less the 29 starters managed to run remarkable times considering the conditions.

The star performance came from Scott Belcher, who lowered his 3.5 kilometre time to handy 16.41 minutes shaving 81 seconds off his previous time.

Cameron Lunn received his 30 run shirt and so became the fourth member of the Lunn family to have achieved this award.  It now remains for his older sister Bridget to clock up another 9 runs to complete the picture in the family album.

Paige Connaughton decided to run the last kilometre of the 5k without shoes.  I doubt is this practice will catch on!

The last month demonstrates that people will turn out no matter what the conditions.  It is rare to miss a Wednesday and we will continue throughout the festive season.

Our Christmas run will be held on Wednesday 23 December.
